Forum on Tuition Increase
Graduate students have begun paying for the tuition increase passed last year, 90 percent of which is being directed at New York State budget shortfalls, not improvements to the university (source 1, source 2). This increase, as well as the recent problems surrounding changes in the Graduate School's policy toward full-time status for funded students (read more here), will be addressed at a GSO-sponsored forum on Monday, February 2, 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the Graduate Student Lounge, LN 1104. All graduate students are invited. |

Andre Massena, a graduate student in Social Work, is facing suspension and possible academic disciplinary procedures following his advocacy for a family who was evicted from Binghamton public housing. He has asked that grad students read this letter outlining his actions, and the university and city response. ** UPDATE ** In its meeting of 29 October 2008, the GSO Senate unanimously voted to send a letter of support for Mr. Massena to BU President Lois DeFleur, Vice President for Student Affairs Brian Rose, and Social Work Chair Laura Bronstein. We encourage graduate student groups and departments to read and download the letter (.pdf format or .doc format), and consider similar shows of support for Mr. Massena. |
